Living Right When Right is Labeled Wrong
by Shana Schutte
Sometimes being a Christ follower means that you won't get to do the things that others are doing. Why? Because the Holy Spirit lives within you and He's very jealous for you. This means that He will not allow you to experience what others do without your conscience chasing you like a bull dog.
While all the world goes the way of hell's directives, you'll be considered abnormal, weird or strange. We shouldn't be surprised. That's what happens to believers when right in the world is labeled wrong and wrong is labeled right.
Sometimes this may feel like punishment when God calls you to hold out for a higher good, while those around you settle for the self-gratification of the moment. It can feel like watching someone eat a chocolate cake while you know you want one, but to eat it would be disobedience, and ultimately make you miserable. I encourage you to wait on God no matter what those around you say and no matter how they tell you that you are missing out on life.
So that we don't feel like we've been cheated out of all that is enjoyable and good, we have to remember that the rewards of God have not been completely given, and neither has His justice. Only when your time on earth is done will you see the full reward for your actions here on earth.
Keep your eyes on Christ, on the future and the truth of God. Then, you can rest in the confidence that you are making sacrifices for a something better.
"Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul" (I Peter 2:11).
