He'll Do Whatever It Takes to Love You
by Shana Schutte
Who loves you most? Is it your husband, wife, friend, sister or brother? What lengths will they go to to maintain relationship with you? Do they travel long distances to visit? Let you call them in the middle of the night? Buy you gifts with money they don't have? Or, spend time with you when they have other things to do?
When I reflect on those who love me, I am filled with gratitude. Their gifts of time, word, and deed that keep me close are precious.
Have you considered the measures God takes to keep you close? If your story is like mine, He sometimes uses painful events to get my attention and make me bend my knee one more time when I'm running, walking, or drifting away. This is how the Psalmist describes the benefit of pain in Psalm 119:67, when he writes, "Before I was afflicted, I went astray. Now I keep your Word."
Ah! How I need reminded that with God, pain is always redemptive, that He never allows me to suffer just because. Watching me cry is not His favorite hobby or something He glories in. Instead, pain is something He can use to draw me closer to Him. And, that is something to celebrate!
"These have come so that your faith of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed." (1 Peter 1:7)

he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted."
