Surrendering to What You Don't Know
by Shana Schutte

To surrender to God's wisdom and control over my life does not require that He reveal why something particular in my past happened. It does not require that He explains why my heart or the hearts of others were broken. Rather, in surrendering I am asked to give up to what I don't know.

Like Job, I don't know and cannot comprehend His awesome power; how He put the stars into place, or formed the heavens. I have no idea where He hides the darkness; who fathers the drops of dew, or how to command the clouds. I don't know innumerable things about His power, magnitude, strength and love, and I don't know why He has chosen particular paths for my life. But I do know that He is an awesome, magnificent God and obviously greater than myself.

Because of this, I can choose to believe, moment by moment, that He loves me, and that He is sovereign over every detail of my life--even those things in my past.

"The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me..." (Psalm 138:8)

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me because
he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted."
