Do You Feel Your Heart is too Broken to Heal?
by Shana Schutte
There is an old saying, “Time heals all wounds.” I wonder who thought up that one up? Someone who possibly wanted to placate a friend who was going through a desperate time and needed a sliver of something; anything, some kind of hope to hold on to.
While time does give God a framework to work within, it heals nothing; only the power of God heals. A smooth-faced girl wounded by her abusive father can still carry the same hurts inside an older looking vessel at forty. However, no matter how long the wound has existed, no matter how long it’s oozed emotional pain, anxiety, self-pity, guilt, unforgiveness, or any other number of ailments not born of God, it can be healed with God’s power and love.
In Matthew, Jesus announced that He came to bind up the brokenhearted—to heal heart wounds. Note that He places no condition on how long they’ve existed, seeing some as too big of a problem, or buried to deep. Yes, any broken heart can be healed at any time no matter how long it’s been since it was shattered.
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners" (Isaiah 61:1)
