He Knows the Way that You Take
by Shana Schutte

Have you ever wanted to understand God's plans for your life but felt lost and confused? Have you desired to hear His voice because you needed direction, but only silence filled your spirit?

If so, be encouraged. Your experience is nothing new. In Job 23:8-10, Job said, "But if I go to the east, he is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find him. When he is not at work in the north, I do not see him; when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him." Yes, if you could talk with Job today, he could relate to your confusion.

But he would also tell you that there is hope.

In vs. 10 of the same passage, Job wrote, "But he [God] knows the way that I take..."

Ah! How wonderful! Yes, perhaps you feel lost and confused. Maybe it seems you can't "find" God and your spirit is dry. No worries, God has His eye on you. You may feel lost, but you're really not because He knows the way that you take--and that is enough.

Job's statement about God reminds me of the relationship I have with my two pet sugar gliders, Sassie and Stubbie.

These two tiny marsupials are nocturnal; they wake up just as I prepare for bed. When I first became their mom, we'd play together at night. I'd  quickly enter the dark room and gently close the door--then I'd stand still and wait. If I moved, I risked stepping on one of them. In less than fifteen seconds, they'd find me in the dark. Both of them would run up my legs and sit on my shoulder. Because they can see through the shadows, we have a relationship. And like God, Sassie and Stubbie "know the way that I take" even when all is pitch black!

What a faithful God we have. He guides us, leads us and shows us the way. Our job is to remember that He always has His eye on us even when we feel lost.

"You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory." Psalm 73:24 (NIV)
