For Women Only: Thoughts About Men
by Shana Schutte
One day while I was at my favorite department store, I listened through the bathroom stall as a young mother spoke to her child, "What's your favorite color today?" she asked. "Brown!" a chirpy, high-pitched voice squealed.
What a cutie. Strange that a little girl would like brown, though. What about pink, red or blue? I wondered.
Just then, I emerged from the restroom to see the mother with her little "girl"--who was actually a boy. That's the kind of little girl that would like brown, I chuckled. One whose species I don't understand. One who wails on his best friends to express affection; leaves the toilet seat up and spits in the wind.
You'd think that with all books on the opposite sex in stores everywhere that women would have men figured out, right?
Wrong.
That's why I've decided it's best to surrender to what I'll never completely comprehend. I've also determined that understanding all the quirks of the male gender is not as important as God's call to love. When a woman loves her man and accepts that he's mysterious, she also can't help appreciate God's creativity, which makes her say, "Wow!"
Certainly, it might be frustrating that your husband, boyfriend or brother is so different than you, and perhaps sometimes you feel like you're relating to an alien. However, if you focus on positive aspects of the males in your life, I'm sure you'll agree that God created something awesome when He made men.
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." (Genesis 1:27, NIV)
