Enough for My Questions
by Shana Schutte

Questions are a part of being human. We ask what dress to wear to work, if we should apply for a new job and where we should travel for vacation. But sometimes questions involve deeper issues--such as if the decisions we made in the past were right and a part of God's will.

Many years ago, I wrote an entry in my journal about the questions I often asked about my past. I'd like to share my thoughts from my journal with you today.

------------------------------------------------------

Unanswered questions rooted in unbelief about God's love can discourage the human heart.

Why did you leave me, God?
How can you be so uncaring?
Why are you punishing me?
Why me?

I've come to realize that I may never know the answers to some questions. Sometimes, I can hear whispers in my heart at night when the house is dark, still and engulfed in silence.

Where was God in the past when I was in pain?
Why did this have to happen?

I'm learning to relenquish my questions before they consume me in futility and tears.

I can't know why, but I can know Who.

And when I know Who, I know all I need to know, when I will let You be enough.

What can I know about you, God?

You love me.

Doesn't that encompass it all--just that You love me?

When I choose to believe, it is enough.

When my heart is broken, you love me.

When I don't know the answers, you love me.

When I can't make sense of some mess in my past, You love me.

When I don't know who, why, what, or where, You love me.

When I don't know
Whose fault it was,
Who could have done more,
Who should have done less,
Why it wasn't different,
Why it happened that way,
What you knew I did wrong,
Where I am going,
Or where I have been,

You love me.

When my questions can't be answered on this side of heaven, God, please help me to let You be enough.
